The Billy Elliot Broadway show is the story of a young boy who overcomes the odds to let his true self shine. Set in England in the 1980’s during a miners’ strike that has destroyed the local economy and given rise to anger and resentment, Billy Elliot gives us hope. He is a young boy whose father expects him to do all of the things that normal boys do – box, wrestle, and grow up fast to eventually work in the mines like his big brother. One day when Billy Elliot is sent to attend a boxing class at the local community center, he finds himself in a ballet class taught by the irresistible and loving Mrs. Wilkinson. With her help and the help of a couple of amazing friends, Billy Elliot discovers that dance is his true passion in life.

If the show ended right there, it would be a very sweet and short story. Unfortunately, Billy Elliot faces resistance everywhere he turns. His father rejects the idea of his youngest son being a dancer. With the loss of his mother previously, Billy feels lost and alone. Against all odds, Billy Elliot sticks with dancing and his talent is quickly recognized by others.

On stage, the emotions felt by Billy and his family and friends is expressed through amazing dance sequences.
